SoWe Wins Over Phyllis; Walnut Street Supper Club is “Disappointingly Incomplete’

• South Philly Review’s Phyllis Stein-Novak visited SoWe, the new gastropub that replaced Divan Turkish Kitchen at 22nd and Christian. Though she felt the roasted eggplant and yogurt dip looked and tasted like hummus it was missing the smoky flavor of hummus. The burger “did not disappoint” and though she believed the “desserts needed more attention” a complimentary replacement quickly changed her tune. Two-and-a-half tips of the toque for SoWe. [SPR]

• Leah Blewett visited the Walnut Street Supper Club for Philadelphia Weekly and found the food “largely uninspired and frequently poorly executed.” She described the seafood medley martini as a “doughy seafood cake, served hot” in a martini glass. The drinks were neither noteworthy nor offensive and as for the ambiance, “the effect is less that of a smoky supper club than it is audition season at the nearby University of the Arts.” [PW]
