What to Eat for Lunch at The Strand House

We’ve enjoyed Neal Fraser’s vigorous, locals-only menus over dinner at The Strand House, but find ourselves distracted by the hot-spot’s wild game park of pouncing cougars threatening to swallow us whole, by leers if not something more sinister. These nocturnal disturbances should be somewhat ameliorated now that the Manhattan Beach restaurant has started lunch service, offering a selection of new dishes, with some overlap of Strand House standards, from 11:00 to 3:00 P.M. Tuesdays through Fridays. What’s on the menu?

Executive chef Greg Hozinsky (who replaced chef Travis Lorton in March) is building on Fraser’s menu with new sandwiches, like one with tempura soft shell crab aside green papaya salad, salads including a Vietnamese chicken with crispy noodles, and soups, such as a sunchoke chowder with smoky bacon and corn.

There’s also charcuterie and cheese, naturally, as well as a decent embrace of seafood in dishes like spicy rock shrimp, moules frites, and a sandwich of Lake Superior white fish with spicy aioli, which can all be enjoyed on the patio or in the safe embrace of the inside dining room.
