At 11:30 A.M. today, the transformation of Sushi Nozawa into a new branch of chef Kazunori Nozawa’s Sugarfish will debut to the public in Studio City. Coming quick on the heels of this local legend’s 25-year run and late February closure on Ventura Boulevard’s “Sushi Row,” the latest location of Sugarfish was designed by Glen Bell of Venice-based DEX Studios, responsible for previous Sugarfish interiors in Downtown, Brentwood, and Santa Monica. In Studio City, Bell has integrated Nozawa’s collection of framed “Trust me” signs given to the omakase specialist by his customers over the years.

“Trust Me”

Of this latest location of the chef’s more casual sushi spot, which will serve lunch and dinner seven days a week, Nozawa says in a statement, “After making sushi behind the bar at Sushi Nozawa for 25 years, it was difficult to close the doors, but I’m excited that SUGARFISH will continue my legacy of authentic sushi of the very best quality…I have always felt I have the best customers, and I invite them all to come visit the new SUGARFISH.” No word on whether he’ll be there today or how fans will react if he’s not.
