What to Eat

What to Eat at Maison, Opening Friday

We wondered if a recent epic restaurant fail would make people shy away from the word “brasserie” for a couple of years, but there it is, in the press release for Maison, the French restaurant opening next to Eggy’s in Lakeshore East from the Custom House team. (And even the URL, which is maisonbrasserie.com.) Of course the name “Maison” means house, so they’re clearly aiming for something different in feel from the elephantine BLT brasserie, not least in that their French joint doesn’t have sushi and pizza (though there is un hamburger). Instead, it’s a classic-looking, accessible menu of favorites from mussels and onion soup to steak au poivre and trout amandine; that and a glass of wine will wash away any bad memories, we’re sure. It opens Friday for dinner; see the menu below.
