Pride Week Rainbow Cupcakes at Magnolia; Penrose Now Open on the UES

•On July 21, a weenie war will be waged: 24 teams will compete for the title of Top Dog and the most delicious hot dog at this fund-raiser at 630 Flushing Avenue in Brooklyn for the NYC Food Bank. Plus, there’s a pros round including Gramercy Tavern, Mile End, Marlow & Daughters, The Meat Hook, and Maimonide of Brooklyn. Tickets are $45 to $75. [Grub Street]

•The only thing sweeter than eating goodies from Momofuku Milk Bar, Minetta Tavern, and NoMad is eating them as part of a fund-raiser for pediatric cancer research and treatment. The fourth annual Cookies for Kids’ Cancer Bake Sale kicks off July 7 in Amagansett in the Hamptons. But until then, you can buy goodies online. [Grub Street]

Magnolia Bakery rounds out Pride Week with a special cupcake for $3.50. It’s a vanilla or chocolate cupcake topped with vanilla buttercream and an edible rainbow. [Grub Street]

• Chalk another one up for the Upper East Side, where Penrose — from the team behind the Wren and Wilfie & Nell — is now open at 1590 Second Avenue. Think classy-pubby, like the other places, with upgraded bar food and interesting cocktails. [UrbanDaddy]

• The Purple Fig upgrades the humble fare that used to be at the All State Café (which previously occupied the Fig’s current UWS locale). The new “modern bistro” has semi-haute cuisine like deep-fried soft duck egg with polenta and blood pudding. [Zagat Buzz]

Zito’s Sandwich Shoppe North soft-opened today in North Park Slope. The new outpost has all the sammie goodness of the original plus those fried ravioli, rice balls and meatball sliders. [Eater NY]

• It’s New York Street Food’s Burger Week, and today’s featured mouthful is a far cry from yesterday’s vegan burger. This monster burger from Feed Your Hole has two patties, double American cheese, and double the pickles. [New York Street Food]
