Is Culinary Statesman José Andrés Opening the Bazaar in NYC?

Well, seems as though he made good on that threat: According to USA Today, the acclaimed chef (and newly appointed academic type) José Andrés will operate the second outpost of his successful Los Angeles restaurant the Bazaar inside the forthcoming SLS hotel, which 36-year-old businessman Sam Nazarian plans to open at 444 Park Avenue South by next spring. But hold your horses: Andrés writes he’s not yet signed for the project. In any event, the Wall Street Journal says the hotel will have “three bars and restaurants,” and because Nazarian owns half of fast-growing L.A.–based Umami Restaurant Group, it’s a fair bet to say that the hotly anticipated Umami Burger will, at the very least, likely make its New York debut next year in midtown south.
