Forget Letter Grades: Here Come Health Report QR Codes

The City Council passed a bill requiring restaurant owners to post QSR codes for smartphones alongside establishments’ licenses and warnings, the Daily News reports. Scanning the codes will help take customers online to Health Department inspection results, for example, in an arguably more efficient way. The codes may be posted on the walls waaaay back behind the bar in the beginning, but Speaker Quinn says she’d want to eventually see them tacked to the front windows, up with the Health Department’s letter grades. Hopefully the next step will be to make inspection findings, and their associated risk, clearer. How many New Yorkers know, for example, what makes a “improperly constructed or located” food surface into a critical violation, anyhow? [NYDN]
