If you think that Peruvian food fails to dazzle and is generally out of alignment in New York, think of the Lima-born Ricardo Zarate as a kind of chef-chiropractor. Zarate has two restaurants in Los Angeles, was named a Food & Wine Best New Chef last year, and is not afraid to cook alpaca. But until now, he’s only been in L.A. Lucky, then, that this weekend, the chef will hit City Grit in Soho and prepare seven courses of modern Peruvian dishes with Japanese touches, which means dishes such as raw scallops with lemon aji Amarillo peppers and uni. The night promises to be filled with beef hearts, sustainable Amazonian fish, and Peruvian bouillabaisse. Each dinner starts at 7:30 p.m.; tickets are $85, and more information can be found here.
