Health Department Gives Joanne a C Grade, or Does It?

The buzzy Upper West Side restaurant owned by Lady Gaga’s father scored 42 points with six critical violations on a health department inspection conducted last week, and although Joanne Trattoria chose the “Grade Pending” placard over the C grade the restaurant would receive if it chose not to appeal, the Post goes ahead and reports Joanne has a C grade. “We’re going to be taking it to court,” the paper quotes a manager as saying. “So, it’s bogus until November, when it’s finalized. We’re planning on disputing it.” Health department code allows restaurants with a certain number of critical violation points to appeal their inspections; inspectors noted bare hand contact with ready-to-eat food last week and took issue with one or more staff member’s appearance, noting an “outer garment soiled with possible contaminant.” [NYP, Earlier]
