Waldy Malouf’s Beacon, which has been, well, a beacon for a kind of New American food for more than a decade at 25 West 56th Street in midtown, has closed. In October, co-owner David Emil told the Times that a rent hike was forcing the thirteen-year-old restaurant out of business. The restaurant is no longer taking OpenTable reservations, and its equipment and furnishings will be auctioned off on Thursday afternoon. Malouf, whose work at the Rainbow Room garnered the restaurant three stars from the New York Times in 1997, opened High Heat, a wood-oven pizza and hamburger restaurant, on Bleecker Street in June.
