“What Keens has always done well is to age and grill meat,” the Beard Foundation says, and that’s something of an understatement. The nonprofit is honoring the 128-year-old steakhouse this year, along with Kramarczuk’s in Minneapolis, Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack in Nashville, Sacramento’s Frank Fat’s, and C.F. Folks in D.C. Keens joins the Foundation’s Hall-of-Fame-ish roster of “America’s Classics,” an honor “given to regional establishments, often family-owned, that are treasured for their quality food, local character, and lasting appeal.” Congratulations, Keens, and keep the mutton chops coming.
