The restaurateur who opened Smith & Mills, Super Linda, and the high-octane, pre-Graydon Carter Beatrice Inn is reportedly working on a boutique hotel named Gowanus Inn & Yard, according to Capital New York. Matt Abramcyk is one of three “developers/operators” for the project, joining the Brooklyn-based hotelier Alec Shtromandel, whose Union Hotel ruffled some neighborhood feathers when it opened on Degraw Street in 2011.

According to a memo obtained by Capital, the hotel, to be built at 645 Union Street between Third and Fourth Avenues, will have 82 rooms on four floors. And a restaurant: “The Abramcyk Group is acting as lead designer on the Project, responsible for the design of all private and public spaces as well as food & beverage development,” the project memorandum reads. “With many years of experience in both restaurant and bar design as well as operational development, it is anticipated that Matt Abramcyk will also serve as a principal of the food & beverage entity which will operate all the hotel’s public spaces.” Though Abramcyk has experience with venues like the suitably tiny Tiny’s, all the way up to the cavernous (and now closed) Bunker Club, this would be his first foray into Brooklyn.

The project is currently seeking investors, (“I really can’t comment about it,” Abramcyk told the site). In the meantime, the hotel has a placeholder website that touts a 2015 opening date, and a Facebook page, complete with a mood-board-esque photos page of possible design inspirations ranging from lobster pots, rusted tin can planters, and a bar operating out of the side of a shipping container.
