The Japanese vegan restaurant recently moved from an East Village basement space to a sprawling Murray Hill townhouse, and is now serving lunch. What you want: Ichiju Sansai, a $40 sampler that includes fried tofu with Chinese cabbage (upper left), chilled English pea tofu (upper right), nama-fu (a gluten-and-rice-flour protein) white miso soup (made with fava beens and Japanese mustard), steamed white rice, and bamboo shoots and rikyu-fu sukiyaki (a hot pot cooked in sweet soy). The best part of this mid-day meal — aside from the nutrient and vitamin boost you’ll get — is that you can try several of the restaurant’s standout items without committing to the pricier dinnertime tasting menu.
