Get ready for a New York City overrun with Chelsea Market and Eataly clones: Today, The Wall Street Journal runs a big feature about the benefits of developers who anchor their projects to big “upscale markets.” Downtown Brooklyn’s City Point will get one, a 25,000-square-foot market is under development in the former World Financial Center, and a new 5,000-square-foot market will open next fall at 44th Street and Eleventh Avenue — and it’s that last one that has Grub most interested.

The 44th Street market, which is opening in a block-wide residential building, will include, among others, a Brooklyn Kitchen outpost (specializing in pickles and home-brew equipment, of course); a “roadhouse-themed” spot serving American classics from Avroko, which is also designing the entire market; and its very own Ivan Ramen, which will be Ivan Orkin’s second NYC noodle spot once he gets his LES location up and running (that last part could happen as early as next month).

Another person getting in on the market trend: Alain Ducasse, who is partnering with Las Vegas hotel and Downtown Brooklyn BBQ magnate Mark Advent on a 50,000-square-foot market. The location of that project is unknown, but it will reportedly be “larger-than-life.”
