An Ecstatic Pizzeria Owner Rushed to Deliver a Pie to Pope Francis

Yesterday, fearless restaurant owner Enzo Cacialli welcomed Pope Francis to Naples by jumping a security fence and hand-delivering a special-made pie — just as the Popemobile cruised by. The Pontiff happily accepted — it was a Neapolitan pizza, of course, with yellow cherry tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, and “Il Papa” spelled out across the top in dough.

Cacialli later told CNN: “It’s really hard for me to understand what I managed to do. Giving a pizza you made with your own hands to the Pope is very emotional.” It was probably a touching moment for the pope, too, who just a couple of weeks ago complained to the press, “The only thing I would like is to go out one day, without being recognized, and go to a pizzeria for a pizza.”
