It’s a well-known fact that smartphones ruin food porn. Even in what should be perfect conditions, dishes appear to have been shot in dungeons or made only of food that is brown. However, according to Israel’s Carmel Winery and the restaurant Catit in Tel Aviv, that’s simply because nobody’s using special Instagram-friendly plates. To fix this, they’ve started Foodography, where, on special nights, diners pay $155 an hour to learn proper technique from food photographer Dan Perez and eat a five-course tasting menu heavy on flowers, crème, dust, and swoops of sauce. Of course, each comes in a fancy-pants vessel, like the “Limbo,” ceramic servingware with a built-in phone stand, or the “360,” basically a Lazy Susan but as your plate, so you can angle that sprig of lovage just so.
