According to the emphatically anti-meat artist himself, Madison Square Garden has agreed to completely eighty-six all meat, fish, and dairy for Morrissey’s June show.

Morrissey dropped the bomb as an aside tucked into an open letter to Al Gore, obtained by Rolling Stone, in which he demands the former vice president make the upcoming 2015 Live Earth concert series vegan on all six continents. “Serving meat and dairy products at an event to combat climate change,” Morrissey lectures, “is like selling pistols at a gun-control rally.” He then tacks on: “Not only is it possible for venues to provide a 100 percent meat-free menu — as is done now at every concert venue in which I perform, including Madison Square Garden, where I have a show at the end of June — it’s also a moral duty.”

A spokesperson wouldn’t confirm or deny the truth of this, but restaurateur Drew Nieporent, who runs MSG’s Daily Burger, told the Post that it was news to him. Nieporent mostly shrugged it off, though, explaining he’ll just shut down for the night, but other vendors might not share Nieporent’s apathy to writing off the evening. As one staffer complained, “We’d have to close half the floor.”
