The first Taco Bell outpost to serve alcohol in America will have a bouncer to protect its stash of chalupas — a concession franchisee Neil Borkan has made in response to concerns from local residents that maybe, just maybe this isn’t a good idea. With its brick walls, LED lighting, and “new urban restaurant design,” the location promises to be the hottest club in Chicago when it opens, possibly in August, in Wicker Park. It essentially boils down to residents not trusting the forthcoming T-Bell’s clientele, who they hypothesize will be underage vandals who scandalously drink in the streets. The bouncer will maintain order Thursdays through Saturdays from 9 p.m. through midnight, and Borkan has even agreed to stop serving booze at 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and at midnight on Friday and Saturday. That essentially defeats the purpose of a Taco Bell where you can order “mixed alcohol freezes,” or frozen adult beverages.
