Arby’s continues to clean up the mess a Florida location made by refusing service to a customer simply for being a member of the police force: The chain has fired the manager responsible and indefinitely suspended the employee. The Pembroke PD tweeted out Sergeant Jennifer Martin’s story, and she claims the cashier wouldn’t run her credit card; when a manager walked up, he casually explained, “He doesn’t want to serve you because you are a police officer.”

Both employees say it was a stab at humor during a busy rush (albeit not a very funny one) and that the cashier simply got too swamped to complete the order. Arby’s didn’t buy that, and CEO Paul Brown already called the Pembroke Police chief personally to apologize. Now, in what the company hopes is the final act of contrition, Arby’s says any police officers who show up in uniform at locations in the Miami area will be treated to free combo meals today.
