Showtime has confirmed that they are developing Florent, a dark comedy inspired by the life of the iconic New York City restaurateur Florent Morellet (last seen having a good time in Bushwick). The half-hour show, which first surfaced last summer when it was slated to be a Sundance Channel project, will star Alan Cumming as the man himself, with Deadline reporting that the actor will transition into the series (assuming development is successful) after The Good Wife is over. Told through the eyes of Cumming’s Morellet, the show will deal with the good and the bad times at the restaurant, which opened in a Meatpacking District that was anything but well-heeled, became a hub for AIDS activism, and welcomed everyone from neighborhood sex workers to New York City policemen and the local LGBTQ community.
